A gargoyle
Collection:Postcard
Description:A photograph of a gargoyle which is to be found on the outside wall of the South aisle of Saint Nicholas' Church. There are thirty such gargoyles at this location. All acted as rainwater gutters but none are now functional. According to the caption at the back of the postcard, "There are horse- and ox-heads, a griffin, and some human faces, mostly imaginary, though the possibility of caricature must always be there".
