Carved stone from the Kilmacduagh monastic site
Description:A photograph of a carved stone from the Kilmacduagh monastic site in Galway county. Kilmacduagh is the site of a seventh century monastery founded by St Colman, son of Duagh, a member of one of the local royal families. It has a magnificent Round Tower complete with conical cap. The carving depicts a bishop, perhaps Saint Patrick. There is latin text above and to the right of the figure.
