Description:A photograph of Clifden town in Galway county. In the centre of the photograph, there is a river. To the left of the river, there is a narrow road. There are two small cottages to the left of this road. One of these cottages is thatched. To the right of the river, there is a railway track with a train on it. Another road crosses this track and there are gates which close across the road or across the track to prevent rail traffic from colliding with automobile traffic. There is a signal tower by the side of the track. Also, to the right of the river, there is a large building with a steeple. This building is either a college or a church. There is a church with a steeple in the background, at the foot of the hill.
