Seven Churches
Description:A photograph of a monastic site known as 'the seven churches'. This ancient monastic site was founded by St Breacán and is in Onaght on Inis Mór. Inis Mór is the largest of the three Aran Islands. The Aran Islands are off the west coast of Ireland. The name 'the seven churches' is applied to the ruins of two small churches and some domestic buildings. Although termed 'the seven churches' there are in fact only two churches. The title seven may be an allusion to the pilgrimage circuit of Rome which incorporated seven churches. In the foreground, there are two headstones in the form of celtic crosses. There is a large gate and wall in front of the ruin. The ground beyond is rocky and there are a number of stone walls.
