Eyre Square in Galway city
Collection:Cardall
Description:A photograph of Eyre Square in Galway. There are several cars in the square. Most of these cars are parked. There are two policemen directing traffic. There are several men and women in the photograph, and there is a man near the camera who is wearing a cap. There is a man cycling away from the camera. In the middle of the square, there is a park which is surrounded by railings. The entrance to the park is through a doorway known as Browne's Doorway. This was originally the entrance to the family home of the Browne family. This house was on Lower Abbeygate Street. The doorway was moved, in 1905, from there to Eyre Square. There is a bay window over the door. There are trees and shrubs growing in the park. There are electricity poles on the footpath in front of the railings, and there is a street sign just outside the park at the corner nearest the camera. In the distance, the name "F. W. Woolworth" appears over a shop front. The Imperial Hotel is nearby.
