House of an evicted tenant
Description:A sketch of a so-called 'emergency man' accompanied by two policemen. 'Emergency Men' were brought in to work on Lord Clanricarde's estate when local people refused. These men required police protection. The man is carrying a bucket. The police are armed with rifles. There is a hut the entrance of which is walled up. The hut is owned by Pat Conroy, an evicted tenant. The entrance is walled up to prevent him from gaining entry to the house. The sketch was published in 1887.
