Description:A photograph, from above, of a "watergate" through the city wall of Galway at the Spanish Arch, one of two found during archaeological excavations in 1988. A "watergate" is a hole in a wall through which goods would have been off loaded from ships. There is a label on the site which reads "E 402 Spanish Arch July 1 1988 Areas 8 Context 159 157 40cm.". There is a medieval roadway in the foreground. The photograph was presented by Galway Corporation.
