Description:A photograph of fossilised ripple marks. There is a man at the side of the picture. The caption at the back reads "Ripple marks are formed in sand by the action of waves and currents. Such structures can be seen on many sandy beaches, or river bottoms, today. They are fossilised ripple marks and can tell us a lot about the environment in which this rock formed originally some 400 million years ago, during the Devonian Period. Elsewhere at this time the land was colonised by green plants, insects and amphibians.".
