Aran currach

The Aran Islands are off the west coast of Ireland. A currach is a type of rowing boat which was used off the west coast of Ireland. One man is wearing a knitted hat and the other is wearing a hat with a brim. There are two boats between this currach and the pier. One of these boats has a mast and there is a man on board. There are a number of boats or ships docked at the pier. Many of thes vessels have masts or rigging. There are people standing on the pier. The photograph was taken near the end of the nineteenth century.
