Fossils
Description:A photograph of coarse sandstones which are to be found on the Kilbride Peninsula in county Galway. They have the abundant remains of fossil shell-fish and corals, that lived on the seabed of an ancient sea, during the Silurian Period 430 million years ago. Animals without backbones but with mineralised skeletons appeared on earth a mere 580 million years ago and dominated the oceans for a further 300 million years.
