Women on the Relief Works
Collection:Mansion House
Photographer:Tallon, Daniel
Description:A photograph of a line of women in a rocky field. The photograph was taken in 1898. The caption at the bottom of the photograph reads "Women on the Relief Works, Garumna Island". The Relief Works was a workfare system whereby people worked in exchange for assistance from the government. Many of the women are carrying large creels or wicker baskets that are used in the West to carry turf or seaweed. There are two men on the right background. One appears to be pushing a wheelbarrow.
