Description:A photograph of a large group of school boys in Carraroe, county Galway. The boys are wearing dresses. At the time, it was the custom in the area to dress all children, irrespective of sex, in dresses. There is a stone wall behind them. Beyond this wall, the ground is very rocky. The photograph was taken in 1898. The caption at the bottom of the photograph reads "Boys in School Playground, Carraroe".
